My sober journey started with- and has exclusively been through- Zoom, so I’m extremely grateful to get to give back to the virtual community through The Sober Movie Club!

I started exploring the sober-curious life for about half a year before I got sober… except that I refused to reach out to any communities in my area or even tell anyone in my life during that time, due to my anxiety over it. I was just keeping a whiteboard on my fridge with tally marks for how long I could stay sober on my own, never making it past one week. Then the March 2020 lockdown happened. I heard about sober communities forming online, so I was willing to show up to one to check it out, knowing I could just have my video off if the anxiety was too much. The very first time I attended a Zoom meeting and connected with sober community online is the day I got my sobriety date. I ran out of space for tally marks on that whiteboard a long time ago.I grew up in a family that worked in the film industry, so I was lucky enough to get to experience seeing movies made first hand, and of course, that made movie nights a big pastime for us. I love the connection from the communal laughter and tears when watching movies in theaters or on friend’s couches. My hope in hosting TSBC movie watch parties is to create that same space for us to connect deeper as friends.

I live in Atlanta, where I love teaching dance fitness, fostering dogs, debating people on why Waffle House is the superior diner culture, and working as an advocate for reproductive justice and harm reduction.
